  • On four Gregorian calendar month 1957 the country launched the world's initial orbiter, Sputnik 1. Since then, about 8,100satellites from over forty countries are launched. According to a 2018 estimate, some 4,900 stay in orbit.

  • Tracking and finding out artificial satellite one from Earth provided scientists with valuable data. The density of the upper atmosphere could be deduced from its drag on the orbit, and the propagation of its radio signals gave data about the ionosphere.

      2. What are all these satellites doing?

      Using the UCS update, as at the end of November, the main purposes for the operational satellites are:
      1.Communications: 777 satellites.
      2.Earth observation: 710 satellites.
      3.Technology development/demonstration: 223 satellites.
      4.Navigation/Positioning: 137 satellites.
      5.Space science/observation: 85 satellites.
      6.Earth science: 25 satellites.

      3. Who uses the satellites directly?

      The four categories of users in the previous section shows that:
      •  848 satellites are listed as having commercial users
      • 540 with government users
      • 422 with military users; and
      • 147 with civil users.

      • Total 4,987 According to UNOOSA, in history a complete of eight 378 objects are embarked on house. Currently, four 994 are still in orbit – though seven of them are in orbit around celestial bodies apart from the Earth; which means there are four 987 satellites whizzing around above our heads every single day

      • UNOOSA recorded 382 objects launched into space during 2018, which is 15.67% lower than the 453 objects launched in 2017 that was the record year for objects launched into space. Part of this reduction is down to the fact that Planet, who have been regular cubesat launchers over the last few years have achieved their initial goal of imaging the Earth’s landmasses every day, and so they are currently focused on maintaining, rather than expanding their constellations.

      • According to UNOOSA, in history a complete of eight 378 objects are commenced house.
